Week 4: The 3D print had finally arrived but unfortunately it was scaled too little as it was expected that there would be a limit on the size being 3D printed. Due to this, the tube dimensions were okay but the handle of the tube was too short. Had there been more time this could be 3D printed again and it would look far better aesthetically. Having put the different parts together the project didn’t work as intended when the button would be put down the tube. Instead the colour of button would have to directly be shown to the machine rather than the button goes down the tube. This was due to the speed of rotation being an issue and it not being able to correctly register what button colour should be detected in time. The use of resistors or control of voltage would be able to help this. We did attempt this, although we ran out of time to be able to make this change. Week 3 blog

 Week 3: In our meeting we discussed what further steps we could make given our amazon components had arrived. Our group was able to finish the Arduino and sensors to make them work together without any issues. This was a huge checkpoint as the project worked, although this did not last long as other issues began arising. The project was initially built with cardboard to later be changed to the CAD designs. The sensors were able to pick up the colour and move the servo attached to the part of the cardboard. Different members created different CAD designs as prototypes. Due to weak sensors or the skittles being too light in terms of colour and reflecting light back, the project had to be changed to buttons instead of skittles. This was a big change as dimensions were required to be changed for all the CAD components and added a delay to the 3D printing to be sent off. Week 2 blog

 Week 2: In our group meeting we discussed that the parts had finally arrived, and we decided to apply the Arduino emulated circuits in real life. Our group finally received the components after the delay on the Friday and got an initial working code. The Amazon components had still not arrived, so we proceeded to try and get the Arduino to work without any skittles or M&M's with colours from our phones. We made significant progress with the CAD and the Arduino. We were able to work as a team to get different parts of the project done. The CAD section made lots of progress with various people working on different parts. We had the servos rotating depending on the colour being detected by the colour although without the actual skittles or m&m's, we were not able to see if these were going to be able to picked up by the sensors without any issues. Week 1 blog

 Week 1 Our group was split into the Thursday and Friday group. On Thursday we had one member working due to him being a CSEE student and the rest of the group (EEE) worked on Friday. In our academic advisor session and group meeting, we discussed initial plans but, on the Thursday, we realised the parts had an error in being ordered that was out of our control as we had submitted the forms in time. This meant there was limited we could do in terms of actually getting started. Despite these initial setbacks, we got the initial CAD designs started and got some of the initial circuit planning and building done. We were also able to allocate the roles to each member. In the lab, we were able to use an arduino emulator to emulate some of the parts although the testing was far from ideal without the actual circuit components.
